Why learn to drive the wrong way when you can learn the right way from the best? wink.gif

SASC is planning to bring the SoloPro Driving school "Foundation Series" to Southern Alberta!

Day 1 is the "Intro" school and day 2 will be the "Comp"(competition) school.

Location: Grey Eagle Casino, Calgary
Date: May 23-24, 2009
Cost: $300 CAD for each school (incl. lunch)** (see below)

**Important Date - May 1st 2009
QUOTE
Date for entry fees will be Friday, May 1, 2009 - whenever my mail comes in (2 pm or so)....or in person if you want to arrange a delivery.

Please send in the remainder of the fees for the school(s) - less the deposit if you have sent it in to ensure you have a spot.

We have a short waiting list for both schools now but not everyone has sent in a deposit......your money will secure your spot. I don\'t want to give your spot away to anyone else, so please act accordingly.

And, there\'s no harm in being added to the waiting list......\"things\" happen and there are virtually always some people with last minute emergencies etc....a fact of life. Let me know.

Thanks!

Reijo

Here are the description of the school (taken from the solopro website. )

Foundation Series

Intro (1 day) Limit( 18 students)

The basic fundamentals are addressed in the Intro class. This class is specially designed to cover the most important components of sound autocrossing techniques and strategies. All students will receive personal instruction from the opening bell until the last lap of the day. Covered in the Intro class are:

* course walking strategies
* timed runs*
* ergonomic considerations
* driving mechanics - the hands, feet, and head
* an introduction to the psychology of driving and other human factors

Whether you are a first time driver or a seasoned veteran, working on the fundamentals of driving is critical to success. The Intro class is arguably the most important class in our line-up.

Comp (1 day) Limit( 18 students)

The Comp class dovetails with the Intro course as it re-emphasizes the basic fundamentals learned in the Intro course while introducing some strategies which will take your driving to the next plateau. Now that you have begun developing sound fundamentals after experiencing the Intro class, you\'re ready to start pushing yourself and begin honing your competition skills.

* Reinforce basic fundamentals
* Multiple course configurations
* Compete in two autocrosses - two different courses
* Advanced driving techniques and strategies
* Advanced psychological/mental concepts and strategies

In the Comp class you\'ll understand and learn how to maximize your cars potential. Advanced concepts, driving techniques, and car control skills will be emphasized throughout the day. Students will actually participate in at least 2 autocrosses on different courses during the day while receiving one-on-one personalized guidance the entire time. It\'s like having your own personal autocross coach instructing you all the way to the top! Beat the instructors times and you may be rewarded with a prize on the podium at the conclusion of the day.

Refund policy:
1. Deposit will be refunded if in the event the school is canceled.
2. If there is a waiting list or someone can take your spot.

Please reply to below if you are would like to attend the school. (Please post fully name and send me a PM with you contact information) Once the venue and the school dates are secured, you will be required to send in a deposit to hold your spot.

We are now accepting deposit. Please send $50 deposit per school to
SASC School

LOL....that's pretty funny, Ambrose.....but true.

Something I've found is that in a classroom setting you just seem to learn more.

Also, I floundered around for years (started in 1980 in Lethbridge) without knowing with only the local schools (albeit good basic stuff being taught and all. This is by no means a criticism of local schools and talent!) - did good in the local and regional events ... but got killed at the National Tours when I first started going there etc. I knew there was more.....and that I could do better.

The SCCA National Champion drivers that came to teach schools in the past were real eye-openers for me. They were simply a number of leaps ahead of us I figured at the time!....and that was true.

In hind sight, I could have progressed my driving many, many years earlier by taking these schools and competeing in the National events south of the border (also earlier). But I guess I was not "serious" enough or was simply ignorant of those facts at the time ... just did not realize that there was much more to be gained out there on the courses - lines, technique, mental/psychological factors, practice, equipment preparation, attention to detail etc. etc. etc.

Suffice to say, you can make no better investment in your autocross/autoslalom career than to take in instruction such as this. Forget the tires and any other car preparation. Simply get the basics (or get to know the basics and perfect them later) down......or at least get pointed in the RIGHT direction. Stop wasting time! This is what these schools can do for you. There is whole new world waiting for you out there to leap in and take advantage of!

Is the question "Can you afford it?" or is it rather, "How can you afford not to take it?" I would suggest that the latter is the truth of the matter!

Does it work? Absolutely! I think my "jacket" tells you that! smile.gif

Ambrose was saying in Calgary - correct me if I'm wrong.

The way to do it is to make up a budget for the school....save for it over time. I figure for a newish driver, it'll get you more time than anything you can do to your car......

It will be in Calgary if its a go. We will take too much of a chance on weather running at Lethbridge in April for a school like this.

Jay is working on the details on the site procurement. We do not want to prop up your hopes until we have the contract on paper, but get organizing for this school can't wait. I understand people have to consider money and time wise if it doable for them.

I hope we get Tim as an instructor (as I had Jinx before), as I never have him as an instructor before and I can learn from a different perspective.

Tim said he wants to come to Calgary to do this school. Also a comment about Tim from Corey Dyck (of Winnipeg through Art Schoeder who's organizing the Winnipeg schools):

"Art
p.s. Don't let this go to Tim's head but this is what Corey said when we were discussing the school, "Tim is single-handedly the best instructor I've had"."

SASC will be hosting the following SoloPro Driving Schools in Calgary:

1. Intro - Saturday May 23, 2009 - $300
2. Comp - Sunday May 24, 2009 - $300

To hold a place in the school(s), please send a check deposit of $50 (Made out to SASC) to the following address:

SASC School
c/o R. Silvennoinen
#305-4625 Varsity Drive NW, Box 90
Calgary, Alberta, T3A 0Z9

Your check will not be deposited until all arrangements are confirmed for lot, instructors, etc. If by any chance the school is cancelled prior to the date said, your check will not be cashed and will be shredded.

This is a chance to sharpen your skills and learn from the best! There are few learning experiences to compare to having an SCCA National Champion work with you and for you, to experience what a car truly driven at the limit should feel like and to have the personal, undivided attention of some of the best drivers anywhere.

Probably the biggest benefit will be cutting, literally, in some cases, YEARS off the learning curve! As I've personally seen, you may learn something(s) that you might otherwise never learn at all! This, sad to say, has happened to me. Don't let that happen to you!

Thank you!

If you have any question please post here or sent Reijo or me a message.
