The SASC Organizers are looking for additional help for next season. It's no secret that in order to put together an event, let alone an entire season demands a lot of time and effort. Currently, with the six of us (Ambrose, Rod, Jay, Khuyen, Matt and myself) are feeling a bit stretchet after this season.
After discussion we have come up with a number of positions that we are seeking volunteers to fill:
Timing/ Operations Team - responsible for setting-up/ tear down and running the timing equipment
1. Jay
2. Khuyen
3. Chris
4. Murray
5.
6.
Registration - responsible for setting up Karelo (online registration), entering registrants (online and on-site) into the timing system
1. Khuyen
2. Ryan
3.
Course Design - responsible for designing, set-up and tear-down of courses
1. Al
2. Adam
3.
Equipment Manager - responsible for ensuring all equipment have been returned back to the timing van at the end of an event. In addition, replenishing all consumables prior to the next event. By this we mean ensuring there are ample supply of batteries, chalk, waivers, registration forms, caution tape, etc at every event.
1. Trent
2.
Website/ Forum and Scoring - responsible for maintaining the website/forum and also compiling results for club championship.
1. Ryan
2. Murray
Please keep in mind just b/c you signed up for these positions does not mean you have to commit to every event. However, if you're unable to attend an event you are responsible to find a replacement or ensuring your other counterparts are able to pick up your slack. If you want you can sign up for multiple positions as well.
Tentatively, we are considering holding 6 events for next year. These events will be in Calgary and/or Lethbridge. The SASC Organizers are working hard in securing a suitable venue for autoslalom (Solo2) for next year. But in order to make these events happen we desperately need people to take on more significant roles.
Thanks
SASC

Note that the number of events we hold are not set in stone. As always, venue availability will be a key factor. But in addition to that, the more people we have who can help out running events, the more events we would be possible to have.

I'd be glad to help but i dont know much about how any of that stuff works, and i dont trust myself to make a course as i have limited experience with course design.
Out of curiosity, are there going to be any currie Barracks events next year?

Just to clarify, the above roles don't need any experience. We are looking for people who would like to learn how to do registration, timing, etc. and will teach them how to do it.
If Currie is still willing to rent it for autocross events, we will of course rent it.

You can put me down with Al on the coarse prep. Be a good way to learn I think too.

I'll talk to Jo, but I know that both of us are willing to help where we can.
Put me down for scoring -- I am considered the Perl "script god" at work, so I should be able to get the timing results processed and up without any problem. I should also learn how to run timing.
I'll let Jo chime in for what she feels best qualified (or interested).

Thanks Murray:
What would be nice is if there was a way that the point standings could be automatically created from a results database. Probably easy to do for someone with a background in that stuff.
Right now it is tedious since you also have to look to see who is a member and who isn't since they are not included in the points.

No problem -- I can do all that stuff. If I can get some sample scoring and membership files from someone, I can get started developing the software this winter. It would be nice to have a running start for next year's racing season.

I would like to run the whole season next year, will taking on one of these roles interfere with my ability to participate in the events?

Al is right -- there isn't any confict. Basically, your involvement includes more than just showing up and doing your marshalling duties. That is required, but it really isn't enough to keep a club running smoothly. Plan on spending some time before/during/after an event to help out where required.
That being said -- I also volunteer for the beer stein lifting position

Then count me in for registrations on Karelo and into the timing system.

I was hoping to run a full season as well next year, I am not familiar with some of the technical aspects of these duties but I could certainly shadow somebody to learn and maybe take on some responcibility later on.

Just an addition here -- if you can get the data to me, I could do this year's results too.

Hey. My name is Rees. I drive two cars: a Subaru 2.5i for the winter and a really old Nissan 180SX in the summer. Anyways, I've always been interested in racing, but don't want to crash either of my cars. I would love to volunteer however I can but I have no idea where to start. I have no AutoX experience, or other racing experience. Because of my work schedule, I may or may not be able to race. So if any of the organizer's need some help, just let me know what you think I would be good at.
Sorry if this post is in a bad place. I just figured it would be best off volunteering since I have no idea what my sched will be like this new year's!
So glad there is some type of racing left in Alberta after race city closed! Way to go.

Rees,
Autocross/slalom/solo is relatively easy on cars and considered "non-speed" events although I think all the adrenaline is still there! Otherwise I would not be doing it after all these years (since 1980). In fact, I have yet to break a single part in a car after all these events. So, c'mon out and join in, there will be plenty of people to help you out.

Still don't know where I'll be this coming year due to work but in any case, I'll sign up to help with course design.
I'd also like to pass on whatever knowledge I have of course design to some who might be willing to learn how to set up and design SCCA National-style courses that have challenge (but easy to find your way around and SAFE) and elements similar to what you might see at current National Tours and Nationals down south to them.
As some of you know, I have been doing course designs almost since when I started competing in about 1980 and includes Western Canadian Championships, 2001/2003/2005 Canadian Championships, some 2006/7/8 LA region championships and overview of the 2008 San Diego California Divisional Championships.
A belated Happy New Year to everyone!
