Great events!

The first weekend for SASC at the new Grey Eagle Casino venue was a success. Good weather, ~35 drivers each day, fun courses, great surface, and a minimum of 8 runs per day. Hope everyone enjoyed it as much as us and hope to see you out at the next event. Results can be found here on the forums.

Forum work in progress

Sorry everyone we are having some technical difficulties. We are moving the web forum to a new hosting/forum service. We hope this new service will be a permanent and reliable new home for us. Sorry about this, there are just some growing pains.

None of the user information is able to move over at this time so you will all have to sign up with new accounts. We are working on moving some of the forum topics and information from the old board to the new one but it is a manual process and will take some time. Please sign up for a new forum account in the new board.

The next 2 events at Currie as still a go, we will be hosting these events. See you there.

An Open Letter From The President

Dear Competitors:

I would like to introduce you to the Southern Alberta Solosport Club. We are a non-profit society which was founded by a group of motorsports enthusiasts who share a common passion for Solo motorsports: Autoslalom, Solosprint, and AutoX. The founding members and board of directors have shown dedication to the sport through many years of experience by both competing and organizing events.

The club was formed by the founding member’s vision to respond to the needs of local competitors in Southern Alberta and to recruit new individuals to the sport. Despite the rapid population growth and booming economy of Southern Alberta in recent years, the level of participation and interest in Autoslalom has been on a continuous decline. For the size of our region, the number of competitors in the sport is significantly less than expected compared to other locations in Canada and the USA. Many competitors have been leaving the sport and the amount of new competitors entering the sport has been low.

One of the reasons for this recent decline in attendance is that local competitors have either been leaving the sport or travelling to other regions to compete because there is no suitable or safe venue for them to compete in locally. In order to bring these competitors back to the sport, we felt it was necessary to form a new group whose only purpose is to organize solo motorsports events. One key mandate of the club is to maintain a strong dedication to find suitable venues for the sport to prosper. Our goal is to provide a safe environment to practice, learn and develop car control skills. Holding events only on suitable venues is imperative for the sport to continue and grow.

The founding members have competed locally, regionally, and internationally. This experience has lead to insight on how other regions programs are run and we feel that a new program in Southern Alberta is required to recreate the interest in the sport and to develop it to significantly higher levels. A mandate of the club is to provide excellent and efficient event organization. This will maximize each competitor’s seat time, while providing a fun and competitive experience. We also feel it is essential to develop programs to teach and promote the sport to new individuals, and the founding members experience in the sport allows them a great opportunity to fill this role.

In an effort to meet these goals, the club has secured a safe and adequate venue for the 2008 season, and has purchased a new timing system which will ensure efficient event organization and flexible course design. In addition, we plan to present new concepts to teach the sport to new competitors.

We look forward to our inaugural 2008 season. We are hopeful that individuals who have competed in the past will be pleased with our program, and many new individuals will discover the sport.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jay Zelazo
